WELCOME TO TUFFLEX PLASTIC PRODUCTS

In business since 1994

Tufflex Plastic Products (Pty) Ltd has been in existence since 1994 and is one of the more established, reputable and well-known plastic recycling facilities in Gauteng. The Company specialises in the recycling of both post-consumer and post-industrial polyolefin waste and operates one of the most sophisticated plastic wash-plants on the African continent. The Company has also developed a unique drying and processing line to convert hard to recycle waste polyolefin powders back into usable pellets.

Tufflex also produces an extensive range of recycled plastic timber which is used in a multitude of different industrial, agricultural and domestic applications. These products are made from a variety of waste polymers, including impossible to recycle toothpaste tubes, various mixed plastics and multilayer substrates, making the Company one of only a few in South Africa that uses unrecyclable materials that would otherwise have to be landfilled. Furthermore, all polyolefin waste and scrap generated through the conventional recycling processes is not dumped but instead added back into timber – consequently Tufflex proudly generates almost zero waste to landfill.

Tufflex also prides itself in tackling difficult to recycle applications and the staff & management consistently pursue and embrace the Company’s creed of “Innovative Plastic Recycling”. The company is 100% owned by Plastomark (Pty) Ltd (www.plastomark.co.za) with the ultimate holding company being Ravago, a large international group involved in the distribution, compounding and recycling of plastics. Tufflex Plastic Products is headed up by Michael Carlsson (General Manager). Monique du Toit (Sales Manager – Polymers) and Tyler Smail (Sales Manager – Timber) make up the balance of the management team who collectively have decades of plastics and packaging experience.

Whilst Tufflex is a focused plastics recycling company and not a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), the company actively identifies, supports and embraces the importance of a Circular Economy and the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). The requirement for EPR schemes in South Africa is mandatory for a multitude of different products including paper and all types of packaging including those made from plastic. Section 18 of the National Environmental Waste Act (NEMWA) requires ALL producers (this includes importers of both packaging and finished products) of these products to take responsibly for and to set up procedures, processes and to invest resources to implement EPR measures linked to the collection of their products in the post-consumer stage. Tufflex proudly plays a key role in this value chain.
